Housewarming Party / Crémaillère

After a long wait and just a tiny bit of stress, we had our housewarming party. It was a fabulous evening filled with good friends, good food and good fun. There was also some music and dancing on the menu and, believe it or not, Steph even danced and we have the videos to prove it!

We had about 20 people over and Jenny decided that it was too much to have a sit-down dinner so the menu consisted of party finger-foods : samosas, pani puri, veggies and dip, some rice salad and other snacks. People seemed to enjoy the food, except the raw veggies which appartenly people do not eat here. But the important thing is that we're sharing new experiences, right? For us as well as everyone else! Steph's colleagues were nice enough to present the both of us with some very nice gifts; our very own Indian clothing! As you can see in the pictures, we didn't waste any time in trying them on! A fair amount of alcohol was consumed as well, and we had a few people who were hurting by the end of the party, definately not going to mention any names! Everyone seemed to have a good time and we sure enjoyed ourselves with our first, and hopefully not last, big party at our place!

We also made a very important purchase today, our very own Carrom board! We already have one in France and decided that we needed one here as well. We have already played many times and we're looking forward to having many carrom evenings with friends! For those of you who know this game, you know how fun it is!

Après une longue attente et un petit peu de stress, on a finalement fait notre "pendaison de crémaillère" hier soir (toutes les raisons sont bonnes pour faire la fête...). C'était une superbe soirée célébrée avec des bons amis, de la bonne nourriture et a lot of fun ! Il y avait aussi de la musique (indienne), de la danse et, croyez le si vous le voulez, même Steph a dansé... et on a des vidéos pour le prouver !

Il y avait environ 20 personnes et Jenny a décidé, vu le nombre de participants, de proposer un buffet : samosas, pani puri, legumes crus + sauce, salade de riz et autres finger foods. La nourriture a eu un beau succès dans l'ensemble, à part les légumes crus que les gens n'ont visiblement pas l'habitude de manger ici. Mais ce qui est important, c'est qu'on essaie de partager des nouvelles expériences, non ? Pour nous, mais aussi pour les autres ! Les collègues de Steph ont été très sympa et nous ont offert nos propres vêtements indien. Comme vous pouvez le voir sur les photos, ont a pas perdu de temps pour les essayer ! Une bonne quantité d'alcool a été également consommée, et il y a eu quelques personnes pas clair à la fin de la soirée, on ne donnera pas de noms ! Tout le monde semblait avoir passé une bonne soirée, nous les premiers...

On a aussi fait un achat important aujourd'hui : notre propre table de Carrom. On en a déjà une en France mais on a pensé qu'on en avait besoin ici aussi. On a déjà fait quelques parties et espérons avoir plusieurs soirées Carrom à l'avenir entre amis. Pour ceux qui connaissent, vous savez à quel point c'est sympa comme jeu !

New Apartment / Nouvel appartement

So - after 3 long weeks in a hotel - we are FINALLY in our very own apartment! It's a gorgeous 3 bedroom, two-storey place with all the furnishings we could ever want. We even have our very own rooftop terrace! We are very happy to finally be out of the hotel and even happier that our place is so wonderful.

A little background on how it all happened:

We visited two batches of apartments on two seperate Saturdays, all of them gorgeous of course. We picked out our favorite one and it went to the company for approval (because lodgings are included in Steph's contract). Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Then the crushing news came back that it was waaaaaaaay over budget. So we had to then pick a second favorite, in the same apartment complex, which we liked almost as much as the first one. We were assured that this one was definately within the budget. Which it was NOT. By this point, we were getting kind of frustrated that we had wasted all this time looking at places that we could NOT have, making sure that any place we could have would be a big disappointment after seeing all the gorgeous ones. So that is when Steph decided to have a meeting with some people from his company to figure out exactly what we were supposed to do and by when we could expect to get a place. This meeting turned out better than either of us could have hoped for. After much debate and discussion over the rising prices in Bangalore Steph and his company came to the agreement that they (the company) would pay a certain amount for our place and we would have to chip in the rest. We were thrilled. They told us we could have our second choice for a somewhat decent price. This all happened on Friday night and we were told we could move in on Saturday, anytime after 1:30 pm, when they would call us. So we ended up getting a call at 2:20 (Indian Stretchable Time at it's best) and we were on our way to our new place. Then, to our great surprise, we were showed into the apartment that we had picked as our FIRST CHOICE!!! So, the wait and headaches were all worth it because in the end, we ended up getting everything that we wanted (at a higher price of course!).

So, we have posted some pictures and a nice video of our new place and now we are just waiting for your comments - let us know what you think! Also, if anyone wants to come visit, you need to start letting us know, these rooms are going t0 fill up fast! `Check back soon for more updates...

Bon, apres trois longues semaines dans un hotel, on est finalement dans notre propre appartement !

C'est un superbe 4 pièces sur 2 étages avec tous les meubles dont on a besoin. On a même une terrasse personnelle sur le toit de l'immeuble ! On est trop content d'avoir enfin quitté l'hôtel et encore plus content de notre appartement.

Un petit résumé sur les diverses étapes que nous avons traversées : on a visité en deux fois (deux week-ends) presqu'une dizaine d'appartements tous aussi beaux les uns que les autres. On a choisi notre préféré et notre sélection a été proposée à la boite de Steph pour approbation (le logement est inclus dans le contrat). Puis, on a attendu. Puis, attendu. Puis, attendu. Puis, le retour fut plutôt négatif et il s'avérait que cet appartement était (largement) au dessus du budget. On a donc du choisir une 2eme sélection, dans la même résidence, et qu'on a aimé autant que le 1er. On nous a assuré que celui-ci était dans le budget, mais en fait NON. A ce moment là, on commençait à être frustré d'avoir perdu tout ce temps à visiter des appartements qu'on ne pouvait pas obtenir, en sachant que n'importe quel appartement dans le budget sera une grosse déception par rapport aux autres qui étaient largement au-dessus du budget. C'est alors que Steph a décidé d'avoir un meeting avec sa compagnie et l'agent immobilier pour se mettre d'accord sur quel type d'appartement ou pouvait continuer les recherches et fixer une date de déménagement. Après un débat sur l'augmentation des prix sur la ville de Bangalore, Steph et sa compagnie sont tombés d'accord sur le fait que l'entreprise paierait un certain montant pour l'appartement et qu'on devrait ajouter le reste. On était ravi. Ils nous ont dit qu'on pouvait avoir notre deuxième choix pour un prix presque abordable. Tout ca s'est passé vendredi soir, et on nous a dit qu'on pouvait aménager après 13h30. Il fallait juste attendre leur appel. On a finalement reçu un appel à 14h20 et en route vers notre nouvel appartement. A notre grande surprise, la destination était en fait notre premier choix !!! Du coup, les longues attentes et maux de têtes valaient la peine parce que, finalement, on a eu exactement ce qu'on voulait (pour un prix plus élevé, bien sûr).
