Fake 6 Month Party!

12/06/2010
--

We arrived in India on the 9th of January 2010 and as June is the 6th month of the year, Jenny had a thought in her head that on June 9th we would be celebrating our halfway mark in India. Silly girl! So, she organized a party, invited everyone she knew and planned out a killer menu to feed all the hungry guests. It wasn't until about 5 or 6 days before the party that Steph, very kindly, told Jenny that we hadn't yet reached the 6 month mark! "Of course we have!" argued Jenny, and proceeded to count out the months on her fingers to show Steph how wrong he was. Only to discover that SHE was the one who was mistaken! We went ahead with the party and just changed the theme: it was now our 5 month party and we were celebrating the fact that we still have 7 more months in !ncredible !ndia!!

The party was great and everyone seemed to have a good time. We watched the world cup matches as well, but Jenny didn't let that get in the way of her desire for dancing and in between the matches everyone got their groove on, that's for sure! The last partygoers headed off the bed at 4:30 am and there were more than a couple people who were feeling no pain by the end of the night - all the signs of a good party!! We are now expected to throw this same kind of party for our REAL 6 month anniversary, but also the 7th, 8th, 9th months and so on! Here's hoping we can make it happen as we all had an amazing time!!

Bangalore Wine Festival 2010

10/04/2010
--

When we read that there would be a wine festival held in Bangalore, we jumped on that right away and said "We must go!" being the winos that we are. It turned out to be nothing like what we were expecting, nothing like any other gathering that was related to wine in any way. It was nuts! First of all, it was quite a ways from our house and we had no other directions to give the rickshaw driver other than "The Palace Grounds". We thought that we good enough. Wrong! The palace grounds are huge and have multiple entries, and we had no idea which one we needed! So we ended up driving around the grounds until we saw some signs advertising the festival, then we were ok. 75 rupees later!! So, the entrance fee was 200 per person, which is not bad ($4.50 Canadian, 3.3o euros). Then it turned out that you also had to pay to taste any of the wines! We asked ourselves what the entry fee was for then! So we paid the extra to taste some wine and have now decided that our palates are not accustomed to Indian wine. We did not particularly enjoy any of the 5 wines that we tasted and decided not to buy anything. Also we have decided not to buy wines in this tropical climate unless it is a really special occasion - this tropical climate is certainly not a wine's best friend! So we then walked around and tried to hear ourselves think over the techno music they had blasting all though the building - it seemed more like a night club than a wine tasting festival! We could honestly not hear anything, and talking soon became something we did only though sign language! We headed outside to give our ears a break. Off to one side of the entrance they had a place where you could stomp grapes! Jenny immediately wanted to do that, even though she was wearing white pants. She went to sign up only to discover - yet again - that you had to pay extra! She understood 20 rupees so took that out of her wallet and continued to fill out the forms. But no! it was 200! Didn't she feel stupid, putting her 20 rupee bill back into her purse. So, she got up on stage and started stomping. Another man was doing it at the same time and they decided to have a competition, and the crowd was going wild! Blasting music, stomping and shouting all over the place. The competition lasted 3 minutes with the promise of a prize for the best stomper. Cameramen came flocking around with a news team there to film the events as well. Jenny had a blast (we always knew she loved attention and she was getting her fill here!). Then, it was time to announce the winner and it was.... hold your breath now folks.... Jenny!! Yay!! The paparazzi went wild with flashes going off everywhere and an interview in front of the television cameras as well. What a wild experience! Everyone had been told that the winner would get some free wine, but to our dismay it was a free wine t-shirt - no free wine for us! But Jenny had an amazing time and Steph enjoyed laughing at her and all the attention she was getting. We continued around the festival a bit but we had had our fill, and decided to head on home after an eventful afternoon. But, honestly (for Jenny anyway) it was worth every rupee!! Stay tuned for a Cheese Club cheese tasting next weekend!

Faux !
